White Water Rafting means cruising down a rushing river in an inflatable rubber raft or white water kayak over crashing waves and swirling rapids for the excitement of a lifetime. Nepal has earned a reputation as one of the best destinations in the world for white water rafting. Nepal's thundering waters, coming from the glaciers of the mighty Himalayas, provide unmatched thrills for rafting and immersing oneself in the landscape. Rivers are graded on a scale of one to six, with one being a swimming pool and six a one-way ticket to your maker. Four is considered to be quite challenging without being exceedingly dangerous to the novice rafter. Five requires some previous river experience. Trisuli, Kali Gandaki, Bhote Koshi, Marshyangdi, Karnali, Sun Koshi are the most popular Rafting rivers.

For the propose of commercial rafting, Nepalese rivers can be grouped into three river system:

1. Saptakoshi River System (East Nepal)
2. Narayani or Sapta Gandaki river system (Central Nepal)
3. Karnali river system (west Nepal)

Eight rivers in the three rivers systems are open for tourist for rafting. The rivers are Trisuli, Bheri, Seti, Sunkoshi, Karnali ,Tama koshi, Arun.

TRISHULI RIVER

 
The Trisuli is the most easily accessible river. This river can be made for a varied durations, depending upon the availability of time and interest. The river is the most popular river for rafting follow by the Sunkoshi. This is due to its proximity to Kathamndu. Chitwan and Pokhara. The scenic valleys and impressive gorges, exhilarating rapids and its easier sections are perfect for the first timers or even the experienced rafters. Trisuli trip can be easily managed to end at a place where a wildlife tour begins.
 
There are several rapids like the Tindevi (three goddesses) named after three large holes, and the upset, the thrilling rapid, a narrow gorge, steepcanyon walls and huge boulders. This trip can be continued as far as Royal Chitwan National Park, depending upon your time and choice.

BHERI RIVER

For Bheri river trip you have options between taking a one and half hour flight to Nepalgunj from Kathmandu or 627 km long journey by road, the flights provide you an opportunity for the spectacular views of the Himalayas, then a four hour drive is required to reach Samjhighat. The drive itself is a unique experience winding up through the Siwalik hills and passing through local villages .The Bheri river itself is so remote that it remains a relatively unexplored river of the west Nepal.The first day section of the river is quite tough with twists and turns, creating many exciting rapids. It takes it into an exciting narrow gorge section of the river with vertical cliffs.
Bheri trip can be continued with a jungle tour in the Bardia Wildlife Reserve, or drive/flight back to Kathmandu from Chisapani.

SETI RIVER

The first day we drive west of Kathmandu early in the morning for Damauli. We raft down the Seti river, a tributary of the Sapta gandaki river, within its forested canyon, the luxuriant vegetation visible along the river is a remnant of the vast forested area which once covered the middle hills of Nepal. Saranghat is a colorful middle hill village with specious beach below. The next day we encounter a technical rapid graded 3-5 before entering the Trisuli River, here middle hills and the terrain plains open up before us, the topography changes dramatically. The twisted serve rock formations give way to sandstone and gravel deposited by antecedent rivers at Devghat a unique Hindus religious community, at this point where the Kaligandaki joins the Trisuli and becomes the Narayani river from here we come back to Kathmandu or continuing journey to visit the Royal Chitwan National Park.

KALIGANDAKI RIVER

A Kaligandaki river trip requires either a flight or drive from Kathmandu to Baglung. The confluence of the Kaligandaki River and the Modikhola. From Modibeni the first day on the river gives a few rapid ranging from 3 to 4 classes and a number of nice waves. The day's camping place is normally Chhisti .The second day we encounter a few rapids of followed by a relatively bigger one before reaching Purtighat. On the third day high rapids is encountered within less then an hour after start near by Pahadi. After finishing our trip in the Kaligandaki you have option either drive back to Pokhara/Kathmandu or visit the Royal Chitwan National Park.
